School of Graduate and Advanced Studies At A Glance

  • GRAD is the first new school to be established at Dartmouth in a century. The first graduate degree was awarded in 1885, now the School oversees all PhD awards and has administrative oversight across 12 masters programs.
  • The School supports over 1,000 students from 62 countries, including the United States and the graduate alumni network connects more than 4,000 graduates.
  • There are 16 programs leading to the PhD, 12 masters programs, and an increasing number of interdisciplinary programs. See a full list of our programs.
  • Dartmouth offers full financial support to all students in doctoral programs; financial aid at the masters level varies by program.
  • There are over 75 centers and institutes. Sponsored research attracted $209 million in fiscal year 2014.
  • Located in Hanover, NH, Dartmouth College has 160 buildings across its 269-acre campus. Dartmouth is the 9th oldest college in the United States and home to the original Winter Carnival programs.
